McMinnville Alien Festival May 16, 17, and 18th!
What is Japa?
“Japa” refers to the practice of repetitive mantra recitation or chanting, performed in conjunction
with a prayer bead string called a mala. Consisting of 108 beads, “Mala” means “garland” in
Sanskrit. Japa Mala meditation and has been used for thousands of years as a meditative practice.
Mantras are much more than just words or repeated sounds. They are portals of transformation
that connect us to deeper levels of consciousness and understanding of being and the cosmos,
and, when used correctly, have the power to harmonize body, mind and Spirit. Mantras are
sacred sounds that are also vibratory codes that connect us with Divine vibrations. The nature of
reality is vibrational. Human beings, animals, plants, and members of the mineral kingdom all
have vibrational frequencies. Every thought and emotion is a vibrational waveform that moves
through us. Mantras are ancient, sacred vibratory codes that help release trapped emotions and
trauma, clear and heal the body, the mind, the emotions, and expands consciousness. Mantra
represents a purposeful gesture toward the inherent, vibratory natural world, a way of
communicating through resonance with the Universe and the Divine. A mantra is a Divine gift, a
song to our Soul.
What happens within your body when you meditate?
Repetitive activity has a powerful effect on both the body and brain. Rhythmic formulas such as
mantras help maintain the body’s own cardiovascular rhythms. A 2001 study funded by the NIH
and conducted by researchers at the University of Pavia in Italy found that repeating yoga
mantras slowed respiration and increased variability in cardiovascular rhythms, which indicates
better heart health, lower blood pressure, and emotional resilience.
Levels of dopamine (the neurotransmitter of pleasure) serotonin (the neurotransmitter of
happiness) and GABA (the neurotransmitter of calmness) all rise in response to meditation. And
for people who practice meditation on a daily basis, these neurotransmitters send signals more
regularly and routinely. You will achieve calmness and develop stronger and clearer intuition.
The vibrations produced by chanting Mantras and the energy absorbed within the body
strengthens the vagus nerve and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, keeping it robust, clear and active. The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for the body’s relaxation and recovery. By calming ourselves internally, the body begins to release accumulated tensions, promoting healing and balance. Through the practice of Japa Mala meditation, the production of cortisol, the stress hormone, is decreased, providing a feeling of deep relaxation and calms the mind. By reducing stress and improving mental health, the body’s immune system is strengthened which promotes stronger physical health. The rhythmic actions of chanting mantras can also help to direct the mind into the highest vibratory frequency, providing mental clarity, as well as merging individual consciousness with Universal consciousness.
The spiritual practice of chanting and meditating benefits the entire world. The vibrations from
your Japa (repeating a mantra) chanting and meditation purifies not only your mind, but your
home and surroundings as well, and touches everyone and everything within you home and
beyond. Meditation raises your vibration and aligns your chakras, energizes your body and
enlivens every cell within your body, which lasts far beyond the meditative state. And without
even being aware of it, you spread peace and calmness to those who come in contact with you.
